SUPPORT PET FOOD SAFETY NEWS
Independent pet food safety journalism is rare. Truly independent consumer advocacy is rarer still.
Pet Food Safety News exists to provide pet parents with clear, honest, evidence-based reporting on pet food recalls, ingredient sourcing, labeling claims, regulation, and industry practices that too often go unexamined.
This work is different not only because of what I cover, but because of how I do it.
I do not sell pet products, accept advertising, use affiliate marketing, publish paid recommendations, take consulting fees from the pet food industry, or accept money to promote pet food brands.
That independence matters. It means I am free to investigate, ask difficult questions, and report without commercial pressure, sponsorship influence, or private financial interests shaping what I say.
Very few independent voices are doing this kind of work. Fewer still are doing it without monetizing product recommendations or building their work around advertising and sales. I have chosen not to do that because I never want pet parents to wonder whether the information they find here is influenced by profit.
My goal is simple: to give consumers trustworthy reporting and advocacy they can rely on.
That work also goes beyond publishing. I am one of only two consumer advisors participating in AAFCO, where pet food standards and model regulations are discussed and developed. I do this because pet parents deserve more than marketing claims and industry messaging. They deserve facts, accountability, and an independent voice working in the public interest.
Pet Food Safety News is funded entirely by readers.
It survives because pet parents and supporters choose to help sustain it. A one-time donation helps, and a monthly donation helps even more. Even a small recurring gift can help cover the real costs of keeping this work going, including website hosting, publishing tools, research, and the services required to maintain and grow the site.
Right now, the cost of continuing this work is more than I can comfortably carry alone. If this reporting has informed you, helped you, or earned your trust, I hope you will consider supporting it.
Please donate to Pet Food Safety News today.
A one-time gift helps. A monthly gift helps sustain this work. Even a few dollars make a difference.

Are you still doing your invaluable work with Poisoned Pets? I have been getting reports from Dog Food Advisor about problems in dog food, but I haven’t heard from you. I hope I am still on your list.

Both my cats have tooth resorption and I am wondering if there could be too much vitamin D in the Blue Buffalo salmon, sweetpotato and cranberry food I’m feeding them. I had read that too much vitamin D could be causing the issues. I was thinking I would change foods. How do I know what the vitamin D content in a cat food is? Would chicken likely be less? Do you have any recommendations?

I went to the pet food store and went to purchase the premium food I have bought for years. The lady behind the counter insisted on giving me samples of something “better” and told me the food I was buying was subject to a recall last week. I asked her why it was not pulled from the shelves.she said they keep sending it, they put it out and sell it. Now, I am thinking she is an idiot. The food I buy is Nutro Ultra Senior Dry. I can’t find anything online incl fda.gov about there being a recall. Have you heard anything?

Recently I asked where I could donate without going through PayPal. Is there a PO box? Also, do you know of a dog food that is beef based but pea and grain free?
